The Dr. Who Sci-Fi Series And Dr. Who Audio Books Series: The History
Almost everyone in countries like the UK, US, Canada, New Zeeland and Australia etcetera should have at the very least heard of the world famous Sci-Fi TV serial DW from the BBC! With the rebirth of the series in 2005 after a 15 year pause, DW is as popular as ever with shows being broadcasted on the international Science fiction channel and even on US television channels in addition to the BBC’s broadcasts.
Thanks to the new show DW is now officially the longest running Science fiction show ever with the 1st episode transmitted by the BBC on November the twenty third 1963, an episode in which the Doctor & his comrades travelled back one hundred thousand years into Earth’s past to aid some somewhat unintelligent cavemen so that they could make the discovery of fire.
With the great success of Doctor Who, the BBC began making Dr. Who Audio books back in the mid 70s on cassette and LP. When it all started the BBC solely made soundtracks from the original serial & then had the Drs of the time add some linking narration to unify the dialog for the listener. It wasn’t long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book episodes exclusively for Audiobook release.
To add to this the BBC started making radio episodes, again with past Drs who had played in the series, these stories were also made available in Audio format. Another brilliant use the BBC have found for audio with Doctor Who is the re-creation of old episodes that had been lost. There exist Audiobooks from the very 1st serial all the way up to the most recent serial with David Tennent and even Sarah Jane and Torchwood Audio.
On our planet today audio is even more popular than ever thanks to MP3 players. With multitasking becoming everyday more an important part of our lives it’s not surprising that Audio sales for both Doctor Who and in general have increased. Another reason why people like Doctor Who audio is because in many cases the audio stories are now read by the actors of the show. They are also a good choice for long car rides, especially with children as there’s nothing like a good Doctor Who episode to keep them occupied.
With the Doctor Who New serial going from strength to strength and more and more Audiobooks being created available both from the old and new serial and now from Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures as well, it looks like Doctor Who and Dr. Who Audiobooks are here to stay for some time to come!
