YouTube’s Scholarship Competition

Last March the YouTube Film announced its exciting new about the site’s partnership with The Vancouver Film School. The team up actually aims to grant full tuition scholarships to three YouTubers from all over the world. Deadline for the submission of entries for the competition will be on May 9,2008. A reminder was in fact posted to ring a bell to those who are interested in joining the said scholarship search.

The said competition is open to all those who could possibly see themselves as beneficiaries of the school’s programs in Acting Essentials, Digital Design, Classical Animation, Film Production, and Writing for Film and Television. The expected contestants are actors, writers, directors, filmmakers, and animators.

In connection to The Vancouver Film School’s motto, “Results Matter”, everyone are enjoined to create a short film entry whether an animation or a creative pitch in accordance to the theme “What Matters To You”. All of the contenders should indicate which of the film school’s program they are interested in and wished to attend.

To those who have not yet submitted their applications and intending to join, the following thoughts should be considered.

First, the competition aims to find students who have the drive and the creative talent but not necessarily the perfect skills. Amateurs should not be intimidated with the idea that the competition will be plagued with professionals in the field or industry. A great idea is being looked for. If you have one, express it! If one is already knowledgeable in the areas of film making, screenplay writing, or game design, please think as many times as possibly could before joining the contest. Why would there be a need for you to be on a scholarship if you already know the subject at hand?

Second, this is a battle of talents and not about the reasons one has for wanting to go to The Vancouver Film School. It is your regard for what you think really matters in this world. May it be family, world peace, environment and nature, travel. Tell the story through the creation of a film, animation or pitch, and be inspired as others are inspired by your work.

If the entry you submitted indeed shows that you have what it takes and has both creativity and drive you would surely land on the Top 10 from which the YouTube Community worldwide will pick three choices and cast their votes on. The three contenders with the most number of votes will be declared as the winners to be awarded a scholarship.
